hutspot improvises psychedelic rockjazz with prepared ideas, melodies, grooves, etc. Hand gestures, musical cues, and spontaneous choices are used to shape & structure the music. The result sounds like what might happen if Miles Davis’s electric bands play Anthony Braxton pieces at a techno rave.

Drummer and composer Robbert van Hulzen has been working on this approach for nearly a decade – in many forms, creating music incorporating the musical backgrounds of the bandmembers-of-the-moment in many places, making this a truly intercultural collaboration. In the winter of 2018, he is working again with long-term collaborator Maarten Visser on saxophones, and bassists Aalaap Raju from Chennai and Mainak “Bumpy” Nag Chowdury from Calcutta.

Robbert also teaches a workshop on the hutspot approach, see or download more info.
