The musicians of Om Viloma drive their enterprise like a Madras rickshaw-wallah: relying on intuition, skill, luck, and brutal force; full of unexpected turns, swerves, and near-collisions; always on the edge and always getting to their destination, albeit possibly not the one originally intended. And ready to fleece you at any moment.
Om Viloma is a collective around Robbert van Hulzen, founded in 2009. With a new combination of musicians for each project, they use call-and-response games from jazz and South Indian music, odd metres, improvisation ideas from various traditions, compelling grooves, melodic improvisations, shifting rhythms, and of course the members’ preferences & contributions.

Als een truck-chauffeur op een Indiase B-weg verlaat Om Viloma zich op intuïtie, vaardigheid en een ruime dosis geluk, veelvuldig van baan verwisselend, uit de bocht vliegend, vaak bijna botsend en altijd op een plaats van bestemming arriverend – zij het misschien niet de aanvankelijk bedoelde.
Om Viloma is een band rond de muziek van Robbert van Hulzen met regelmatig wisselende bezettingen. Gebruikmakend van vraag-en-antwoordspelletjes uit jazz en Zuid-India, onregelmatige maatsoorten, improvisatie-ideeën van allerlei origine, schuivende ritmes en natuurlijk de voorkeuren & bijdragen van de individuele leden creëert Om Viloma elke keer opnieuw spannende muziek met een totaal eigen geluid.
